Where you at?

Where you at?  It's a fair question.  Do you ever ask yourself?  If you immediately jumped to 'uh no I don't make a practice of talking to myself'; think again! We talk to ourselves incessantly everyday!  Maybe you aren't having full blown, conscious conversations; good for you if you are though, but there is a constant running dialogue happening! That's another story though...

Ok - so the question; what about the question!  I'm not asking for a physical location here, I'm asking you in your overall game plan of life goals - where you at?  We all have goals, or maybe your dreams and wishes haven't quite manifested as goals yet, but when someone asks you where you want to be in 5 years, do you know?

Most of us can answer that question; and some of us even know how we are going to make that happen... but what if you don't?  The concept of getting somewhere requires a couple of things, first and foremost you have to know where you're at!

If someone asks you how to get to downtown Toronto, the first thing you have to establish is where they are; once you know where you are starting from, you can get directions to anywhere.  Make sense?  Reaching our goals, living our most authentic lives, and finding our happiness requires us knowing where we are, right now in this moment!!

So how do we figure out where we are at?
Ask yourself!
Our lives and happiness are a little more complicated than our job, or one relationship... as I have mentioned before we can be rocking one aspect of our lives, and totally sucking in another area but still be on the right path!  We need all the data, and we need to know how it all fits together to make us whole!

We need to commit to asking the questions; and being totally, brutally honest with ourselves.  The more information we have about the big picture of our lives, the better able to pinpoint problem areas we will be!  As I sat in the sunshine yesterday I did my monthly inventory of self! I break my path down into 3 main categories and I get real with myself, I list the good, the not so good, the gotta go, and the I need to do that's!  This month looks like this...

Health is totally on track with a committed workout program, and yoga training is definitely fueling my soul, summer brings an abundance of time outside and amazing fresh local veggies;  and I am loving that.  I am meditating daily and really practicing a mindful approach with myself!

Love is a full tank theses day, so much family time and real collaboration within the family!  Getting through wedding planning, and health issues, new homes and trying to squeeze so much summer out of it all!  My struggle always in this area is accepting that maybe, just maybe people are doing the best they can; and letting that be enough.  It's taken a long time; but I have come to accept that some things are out of my control... seems like a no brainer; but admittedly I have struggled hard with that one!

Career, I know I am doing exactly what I need to be doing, I love what I am doing, and the new twist with Namast'ay At Home has been a huge shift for me!  I have struggled long and hard most of my life with fear of judgement, I have held back and sold myself short more times than I care to count!  This project has opened me to a whole new level, there is confidence but it's deeper than that... it's self acceptance, and an authentic belief in myself and what I have to offer, that has genuinely boosted my spirit!

This week I am offering a worksheet that is one of many that I use to sort out my 'me'.  We spend far to much time in our lives trying to measure up to standards and labels that are set out by someone else, rules for a healthy life, a fit life, a happy life, a purposeful life... rules that in many cases are extremes that someone else has deemed necessary; but more often than not they don't fit our lives!  So we are somewhere just outside of vegan, or paleo, or fit, or yogic enough, our own personal limbo that leaves us feeling inadequate!

If only we could give up bacon, or dairy, if only we could meditate daily, or workout more, then we would be happy inside those popular labels?  Honestly?  I can assure you that if you are not happy with who you are right now, losing 5 pounds, or giving up dairy isn't going to fix your life!  No you don't have to be happy with your weight, you can absolutely recognize a need for change, but you have to be on board with who you are as a human being, you have to set aside standards that society has set and really get in touch with your own standards!

Forget about what everyone else is doing, or what that nasty voice in the back of your mind is telling you and really figure out who you are!  We need to get still and really assess our life by our own standards... stop beating yourself up for not 'fitting' into a label, create your own labels!

Over the years I have set my own standards, my own levels of acceptable for Jo; and I have never been more content or fulfilled!  It all started with figuring out 'where I was at' and these worksheets gave me all the information I needed to set a course for my own goals, you can too!

Start with YOU... set aside what you have been told, what you think you should be doing; and focus on what you know is right for your body, your health, and just do it!
